The purpose of this code of conduct is to provide all participants in Rugby Union with some simple rules concerning the standards of behaviour that are expected.
We passionately recommend that everyone linked with Rugby Union adopts these rules so that spectators, parents, officials, coaches and players can attend matches protected in the knowledge that it will be an enjoyable and safe rugby experience.
If every player, coach, parent, official, spectator and referee remembers and puts into practice these simple rules, the game of Rugby Union will continue to prosper.
As a coach, you have a special responsibility. Through your words and actions, you can build the character of your club and the character of your players. Coaches as well as players have the opportunity to promote sportsmanship over gamesmanship; be gracious in victory and accept defeat with dignity.
As a referee, you are an integral part of the game and you can help players and supporters enjoy the game by demonstrating a proactive and positive attitude. This can be achieved by being consistent and clearly expressing your decisions in a way that can be clearly understood. There is no substitute for a thorough knowledge of the Laws of the Game. Keep up to date with the latest trends in officiating.
As a spectator and parent, lead by example and enjoy the game and let the players know that win, lose or draw, you support their efforts. Be a positive role model for your children and the club.
